In the late 90’s I worked for the Staten Island Museum, back when it was called SIIAS (Staten Island Institute of Arts and Science) in New York as part of the education department. We had one program where we talked about dinosaurs and fossils. At the end we would let the kids come up to the sand box and using a paint brush, try to find a fossil in the sand. At that time each fossil was random, a fern, a shell, a bone. I thought it would be nifty if the fossils went together like a puzzle, so when the kids find all the pieces, they can then take time to rebuild the dinosaur. The education department thought it was a good idea, so I made several sets from fired ceramic. Over years the ceramic would chip, so I thought it would be better to make them from a more durable material. After a lot of research I decided urethane plastic would work. Just yesterday I received an order and shipped off two urethane Find A Fossil Sand Puzzles to the Staten Island Museum. If you are in New York, take the Staten Island Ferry and check out the Staten Island Museum. It’s great for kids and those interested in the amazing history of New York, and it’s harbor.
